I have thirty years of experience as a writer and editor; a strong work ethic guided by efficiency and perfectionism; and an entrepreneurial spirit that inspired me to help launch four magazines, numerous digital e-newsletters, and a social network for North Carolina parents. I love finding new, effective ways to communicate with readers, and am passionate about exploring untold stories.

The easier something is to read, the harder it was to write.

I’ve extended this advice to co-workers, freelance writers, students, friends, and family members who aspire to write quality content. Good writing takes work. Restructuring a sentence three or four times to achieve the perfect diction, length, and vocabulary shows you care about your audience.

Last December, I pursued a passion project and co-founded Backroad Portfolio magazine, a seasonal celebration of America’s backroads, and a passport to the heart and soul of off-the-beaten-path destinations across the Southeast.
