Geocaching Abundant on the American Tobacco Trail

A few weekends ago my husband’s sister, brother-in-law, brother, brother’s girlfriend and two dogs visited. The beautiful weather and desire to find something all of us — including the dogs — could do together, prompted us to hit the American Tobacco Trail. Since my sister- and brother-in-law are avid geocachers, they decided to look up the trail’s geocaching potential and learned there are no less than 10 caches on the 1.5 mile stretch of the trail we hiked (from the NC 751 entrance in New Hill to Olive Chapel Road in Apex). Ten! We chose 5 and staked them out, equipped with refill items for the geocaches. We found 4 of the 5 — not bad — and the kids thoroughly enjoyed this treasure-hunting activity! Plus, the scattering of colorful leaves strewn across the trail and blowing through the trees made for a perfect Carolina fall experience.

Here’s where you can look up the geocaches we found, plus many others in the area: www.geochaching.com. And, here are a few more pictures from our adventure.
